On A Serious Note....

I am sorry I have been gone for the last week. I have not been feeling very well. This last week has been really rough for me. Since this blog is about my life, and the good and the bad... This post will be intense...

My IC has been really crazy on top of a new medication for it that is making me sicker than a pregnant lady in the first trimester. I am finally getting a nausea medicine  that will hopefully help with the the fact I don't want to eat, and when I do,  I get sick.

I am going to just lay it all out here, not because I have to, but because I can and I have nothing to hide.

I am 23 years old and now on a medicine that chemically induce's you into menopause. I have the body of a young  old woman, and the mind of a young confused person...

The sad part is I have been on it for the last two months. Its not working so they are increasing my dose the day after Christmas. I am on the medicine because it is suppose to help with my IC and to help determine if all the problems are strictly IC or to see if I could potentially have other issues going on as well.

So far I have been feeling okay except really nauseous and sore like I got hit by a freight train... No joke.

About a week ago I started noticing signs of a infection, I went in to the doctor and sure enough I am battling everything else now with a kidney and a bladder infection. The medicine they gave me for this is making the nauseous train ten times worse. At one point this week all I ate for the whole day was a single hard boiled egg and still felt sick... I know not the best diet but, its better than eating and feeling ten times worse than you do.

All I can say is, Interstitial Cystitis really does suck....

Seriously... I know its selfish to ask...But PLEASE?

Okay so I will stop ranting, I guess my point that I am trying to say is that I know its the holiday season, but everyone has things going on, and this time a year is rough on people who have lost loved ones, or aren't feeling good, or just don't have family to celebrate. So try to go that extra smile and tell people Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday's or even just smile... Ya never know It may make their day!

I am hoping I can ask all of you to keep me in your thoughts and prayers as we go through the holiday festivites, cause well lets face it, I hurt to walk and eat and move now as it is, let alone dealing with the stress as it gets closer.  The Man and I will be doing 3 Christmas's on Christmas day, and a total of 5 before the week is over.

Not to mention the whole body hating me thing has been miserable... So seriously... anyone wanna sell me a kidney for Christmas...? I will be forever grateful...

I found out my IC is back in full force as I try to partake in the festive activities and well... My body is not liking it... But it's Happy Friday, So more on this later...

I have a busy weekend ahead with Decorating the man's family tree tonight, our tree hunting tomorrow, and a hockey game! (YAYYY!) and Sunday Cookie making, Gift wrapping, and maybe shopping... Oh boy...

Wish me luck that I have a semi normal weekend! I hope you all have a good weekend, and remember as your out there preparing for holiday festivities the real reason of Christmas is not the gifts we give.... More the Memories and true meaning of it!

Getting To Know You November... Day 29

Happy Black Friday Shoppers! AHHH Crazy madness I tell you....

Okay So Getting to know me... :) Today's topic is What do you think People Misunderstand about you most?

This is easy for me. Everyone assumes thinks that I am a talker and that I never shut up. This is only partly true. I do tend to talk a LOT when Stressed, or nervous, or just plain goofy. However I really don't talk much. I can go days with out talking to my best friends.... Current record.. 4 DAYS!

The other big one is that People with IC often get told, Oh you don't look sick, so there for you must be FINE... Well I can guarantee if you say this to someone with IC, that person will want to smack you. Point said. Auto Immune diseases you often don't see, and just because you don't see it, doesn't mean its not there or true.  If you really want to test this... Myself and any other person with it, I am sure would be glad to let you live our lives for a day...

So message of today's lesson kids... Please don't judge a book by its cover. If some one is having a bad day... Try to cheer them up... Try to empathize with people you know that have chronic illness's. Try to have compassion!

Hope you all survive the crowds today! Have fun!

Happy Thanksgiving, Get To Know Me, and Much More!

I hope you all have a wonderful day spent with either loved ones, or Friends. I have spent a few Thanksgiving's by myself so I have really come to appreciate the chaos that now is the normal of them! It also makes me appreciate people who open their homes up to people who don't have anyone or anywhere to spend it.

Now For Get To Know You November... Day 28... Have you ever had something happen to you, that you thought was bad, but it turned out to be for the best?
Yes, Yes I have. I would say that this would describe  how I felt when I left my ex-husband.  I never felt like things would get better. Especially when It came to the holidays. But I can honestly say now that with out that time in my life I would be on a different path. I would not be the same, and I would probably not be with the Handsome man I am with now. I would not Change it for the world.

Now For happy thoughts... man oh man.. Bad topic for turkey day!

Being that today is Thanksgiving I think its appropreiate to be thankful!

  • Music, with out you my days would be quiet and lonely
  • My Job... You can be stressful But I love what I do...
  • My Family... we are crazy but I am glad to have them
  • My Boyfriend and his amazing Family! I cant say thanks enough...
  • My Doctors and all they do for me.
  • I am thankful for my some what HORRIBLE healthy body.
  • I am thankful for Pacey, With out Pacey(My pacemaker) I wouldn't function.
  • The normal... Food, a roof over my head, heat and the plain basics in life.
  • My FURCHILD... Red doggy... Oh how I love you. Even when you are needy and vocal... You are there to greet me every day, and you give me loves when I need it.
  • The exisitance of hot baths, ice pack's, and heat pads... Yes this is creepy but if you have IC you understand why I say this! Oh boy I think this really should be first....

So There you have it... Have your self a Happy little Gobble day and don't forget to bring the FAT Kid out in you today!!! :)

IC... The Basics.....

I have had some people ask me to explain and give information and facts that people can share to help raise awareness for IC.

So here it is, the facts about Interstitial Cystitis! Some maybe scary or windy, But they are cold hard facts.

IC or Painful Bladder Syndrome(PBS)  is a chronic condition and diagnosis of exclusion of unknown cause characterized by bladder pain. It may be associated with urinary urgency, urinary frequency, waking at night to urinate. Those with interstitial cystitis may have symptoms that overlap with other urinary bladder disorders such as: urinary tract infection (UTI), overactive bladder, urethritis, urethral syndrome, and prostatitis. IC/PBS in a quality of life comparable to that of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic cancer pain, or a patient on kidney dialysis. (thanks Wikipedia)

The cause of IC/PBS is unknown.

Most IC/PBS patients have damaged lining to their bladder, Which makes it difficult to urinate, more prone to infections, problems with intercourse, and sever pain.  On average, a healthy adult urinates no more than seven times a day and seldom needs to get up at night to use the bathroom. Someone with a severe case of IC, on the other hand, may urinate as frequently as 60 times in 24 hours, including multiple nighttime trips to the bathroom.

Types of IC/PBS, Currently there are two recognized subtypes of IC: non-ulcerative and ulcerative.
    • Non-ulcerative: 90% of IC patients have the non-ulcerative form of IC. Non-ulcerative IC presents with pinpoint hemorrhages, also known as glomerulations, in the bladder wall. However, these are not specific for IC and any inflammation of the bladder can give that appearance.
    • Ulcerative: 5 to 10% of IC patients have the ulcerative form of IC. These patients usually have Hunner's ulcers or patches, which are red, bleeding areas on the bladder wall.
Because there is no cure for interstitial cystitis, the goal of treatment is to relieve symptoms. Not everyone with IC responds the same way to the same treatment. What works for one person may not work for another. In addition, IC treatments generally take several weeks to several months to provide relief. When you discuss your treatment options with your doctor, your doctor will help you decide which one might work best for you.

The AUA Treatment Guidelines include a treatment protocol ranging from conservative treatments to more invasive interventions with lower numbers representing less invasive methods:
1. First-line treatments - Patient education, self care (diet modification), stress management
2. Second-line treatments - Physical therapy, oral medications (amitryptiline, cimetidine or hydroxyzine, pentosan polysulfate), bladder instillations (DMSO, heparin or lidocaine)
3. Third-line treatments - Treatment of Hunner's ulcers (laser, fulguration or triamcinolone injection), hydrodistention (low pressure, short duration)
4. Fourth-line treatments - Neuromodulation (sacral or pudendal nerve)
5. Fifth-line treatments - Cyclosporine A, Botulinum Toxin (BTX-A)
6. Sixth-line treatments - Surgical intervention (urinary diversion, augmentation, cystectomy)
I hope this helps Please let me know if you have questions.....

Body Parts... Getting To Know Me November... Day 27

Let's get creepy an anatomy lesson!

Joking... I hope you didn't really think I was serious...

Today's Topic is What is your favorite part of your  body and why?

I would say that my favorite body part would be my head... It holds my face, my mouth, my hair, and my eyes. This is mainly due to the fact that with out my head I would not be able to talk, see, eat, smell anything in this amazing world...

However though I am really fond of all parts of me! How about you... Do you have a favorite part?

  • My Grandma used to own her own bakery shop in town and was known for it... Yet I can not bake to save my life...
  • I love the smell of the rustic pine cone smell that is out in stores during the holiday season!
  • Eggnog is something that I enjoy every year! I always add nutmeg to my eggnog and it is way better!

Day 20... Describe 3 significant memories from your child hood.
  • One would have been dancing. I used to dance, tap, jazz, ballet, and modern.
  • I belonged to a youth group of the Freemasons. I was a member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.  This was probably my favorite. I grew and learned so many memories from this!
  • Holiday Memories. I would say the memories of driving around and looking at lights and spending time with family!
Day 21...If you could have one superpower, what would it be, and what would you do with it first?
I would have to say that this would be to find cure's for all auto- immune diseases. I would start with IC. Its miserable and people don't understand.

Day 22...Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?
5 years - I would hope at this point to be married, and settling with my career more. Work has been so busy, in a good way, I just wish to be fully where I see myself going with the company.  As far as wedding and marriage, Ham(the man) and I have been together for almost 3 years so at that point, I would hope that we are married.
10 years- I hope to be settled in a dream home, and married, and fully fit with my employment, and doing volunteer work to give back.
15 years- man I cant hope that are I guess just happy and satisfied with life.

Day 23... List your top 5 hobbies and why you love them!
  • Blogging- I get to Spread thoughts, ramblings, awareness and such about IC in my own little corner of the world.
  • Volunteering- Its nice to give back with out it being expected and forced upon.
  • Reading- This is my get away zen time. This is how I escape my little stresses in life.
  • Spreading IC awareness. The world doesn't accept people for who they really are. I think with awareness this will help.
  • Spending time with loved ones and friends. well just because they are awesome.
Day 24...Describe your Family dynamic as a child and your family now.
As a child I grew up in a family that had been through divorce. Neither of my parents got along so it was often split between members of my family. Vs.  The dynamic now is calm and collected, no stress and fighting. :)

Day 25... If you could paint a picture of scenery that you have seen before, what would it be?

View at Ham's parent's house!

Enjoy!
